Before 1845, the role of women in law enforcement was unclear. As prisons progressed in separating men and women prisoners, women's roles became more and more important. Women began to advance to positions such as Patrol Officers, Detectives, and even Chief of Police. Over decades, women fought to partake in the law enforcement field which gave way and welcomed many firsts for women.
