There are many media portrayals of female police officers in today's society. In 2009, the TC channel "TLC" premiered the reality show "Police Women of Broward County". This show follows four female employees of the Broward Sheriff's Department, showing them in both their work environment as well as in the home. This show gave audiences a real look into the lives of female law enforcement officers. Instead of glorifying their sexuality, as most scripted shows do, "Police Women of Broward County" show these women in a very positive light, showing all of the hard work that they have to perform. The show did so well that it was followed with women from law enforcement agencies in Maricopa County, Memphis, Dallas, and Cincinnati.
Another television show that features a woman police officer is "Rizzoli & Isles". This show, which airs on the network TNT, premiered in 2010 and features Angie Harmon as Jane Rizzoli, a detective in the Boston Police Department. Unlike "Police Women of Broward County", "Rizzoli & Isles" focuses more on the sexuality of Rizzoli than her abilities as a police officer. The show does not show her as an inept officer, but it does use her attractiveness in order to help her solve cases and to gain more male viewers.
